"EVERYONE FOR ETHAN"
A 21 month old boy, Ethan Brons, living in our community has an extremely rare, life threatening disease called Periodic Fever Syndrome. Since 4 months old, he has had daily fevers, rashes, and painful swollen joints. At times this auto inflammatory disease can be debilitating. Because the disease is so rare, only affecting 100 people in the world, the local doctors have never seen a patient with the disease and have sent him to... the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Maryland. Ethan visits NIH every 3 months to continue to find a medication that will be effective. Without a cure, the disease shuts down all the body’s major organs, causes hearing loss, blindness and/or death.
Rich and Michele Brons have lived in the community for 30 years and both are teachers at Rocky Point Schools. Michele has had to take an unpaid leave of absence to care for Ethan because he must be closely monitored and is often in severe pain. Due to extensive increased medical bills, frequent travel expenses and significant loss of income, it has been financially devastating for the family.
